Theron E Simmons of Fort Mill, SC passed away October 21, 2023. Theron was born March 21, 1928, in Jackson County Georgia, the son of Albert C. and Mae Dickerson Simmons. He was educated in Georgia public schools and Stamps Baxter Normal School of Music, where he studied harmony and composition.
In 1948, Theron went into the retail business with various chains and managed stores in Indiana, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia and West Virginia. In 1968, he joined New York Life Insurance Company as an agent, where he achieved life membership in New York Life’s “Council”.
Besides his parents, Theron was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Collins Simmons, and his second wife, Betty Anderson Simmons; brothers, Horace, Buren, Joel, and Wayne; and sisters, Dorothy South, Woodie Simmons, and Mattie Lou Buice. He is survived by two daughters, Karon Battle and Kathy Simmons both of South Carolina; brother, Kenneth Simmons of Alabama, and numerous nieces and nephews.
After retiring in 1994, Theron enjoyed his hobbies of traveling, gardening and writing gospel music, with more than 30 songs published to his credit. Over the years he enjoyed directing several church choirs and singing with gospel quartets.
Theron was a joyful Christian man whose goal was to leave everyone with a smile on their face. He loved his family and set the example for Christian living.
A service to honor his life will be held on Saturday October 28, 2023, at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill, SC. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM with the service to follow at 2:00 PM.
