Marie Hemphill Leventis

Marie Hemphill Leventis, age 65, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 in Pineville, North Carolina. Although her passing was unexpected, by God’s grace, she was lovingly surrounded by her three, adoring children and brother. Marie was born on October 9, 1957 in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Frank Hemphill and Marvis Keels Hemphill.

To know Marie was to know true, unconditional love. She loved fiercely without limits. She was an incredible mother to her children, a cherished Yia Yia to her grandchildren, and a sweet “Mama L” to so many others. She leaves behind an inspiring legacy of selfless devotion to those she held most dear.

In the rare moments when she wasn’t tending to her garden or spending time with her children and grandchildren, Marie loved walking the trails of the ASC Greenway and working through jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She shared a special bond with her grandsons where, together, they could turn any Lego challenge into a masterpiece. She found joy in giving to others and rarely showed up without a special gift or crop from her most recent harvest.

Marie is survived by her three children: Andrew Peter Leventis III and his wife, Katie, Jason Andrew Leventis and his wife, Elizabeth, and Stephanie Leventis Diaz and her husband, Rudy. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Kosta, Kai, Luca, A.P., Isla, and Madison Keels; her brother Frank Hemphill (Pamela), nephew Trey, and niece Elizabeth.

The family will receive friends and relatives during visitation at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place, Fort Mill, SC, on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Marie’s Life at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow.
