Joseph Francis Murphy

Joseph Francis Murphy, 86, of Tega Cay, SC passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of November 29th, 2022.

He was born and raised in Brooklyn NY and moved to Levittown, Long Island NY after marrying Barbara Ann Maher in 1964. He relocated his family to Tega Cay, SC in 1986 and found a love and appreciation for the South. After a lifelong career in commercial insurance, he retired in 1998 from Royal Insurance a Vice President.  Since retirement, he enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Wylie and socializing with the many friends he had made. He was active in the local Power Squadron and served as a Commander for several years. He also enjoyed traveling the world via cruise ships and visited all but one continent on his many voyages.

He was a devout Roman Catholic and a founding member of Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill SC. He was also an active lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Ann Murphy, a sister Dorothy Murphy and brother Robert Murphy.

He is survived by his two sons Jim of Indian Trail NC and Don of Edgemoor SC. He also leaves behind two granddaughters, Mollie Johncock of Matthews NC and Melisa Smetana of Raleigh NC, two grandsons Ryan and Ethan Murphy of Indian Trail, NC, and one great grandson Chance Smetana also of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his brother Michael Murphy of Oklahoma.

The family will receive visitors from 5pm -7pm on Thursday 12/8/2022 at Palmetto Funeral Home 2049 Carolina Place Drive Fort Mill SC 29708.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday 12/9/2022 at 1:30 PM at Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church 292 Munn Road East Fort Mill SC 29715. Interment at St. Philip’s will immediately follow the Mass.
