James D Humphries

James Durham Humphries (97) of Thomasville, NC passed away on January 22, 2022.  A native of Union County, SC. James was a son of the late John Calhoun Humphries and Inez Fowler Humphries.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Jennings Humphries and son, Larry Stephen Humphries. James was a WW2 veteran who fought in the Marianas Islands Campaign with the 2nd Marine Division. James was awarded the bronze star for bravery during the battle of Tinian.  After the war, James spent most of his life in Rock Hill / Charlotte and retired from the Merita Bread Company. James is survived by his two grandsons, Larry Stephen McFall (wife Rebecca) and Stephen Tait Humphries (wife Leslie); three great-grandchildren, Logan Joel McFall, Ty Durham Humphries, and Rachel Dian Humphries. Services will be held in the chapel at Bass-Cauthen funeral home at 11:00am on Thursday January 27th and grave side at Grandview Memorial Park.
