Bob Roberts

Robert Richard “Bob” Roberts, of Rock Hill, SC and formerly of Binghamton, NY and Ontario, NY, passed away from Covid-19 Monday, September 13th, 2021, at Piedmont Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in 1946 in Carbondale, PA, the son of the late Robert David Roberts and Margaret Shipsky.

A veteran of the United States Navy, after training in Great Lakes, IL, he served as a medic embedded with a Marine unit stationed in Khe Sanh, Vietnam.  He received the Vietnam Service medal with bronze star, the Vietnam Campaign medal, and the National Defense Service medal. In 2019, he was the proud recipient of a Quilt of Valor from the Rock Hill chapter of quilters.

He worked for Piedmont Medical Center in the Emergency Department and continued to volunteer after his retirement in 2015. He logged an astounding number of volunteer hours, over 1600. He worked tirelessly to help both the ED team members and patients alike with his hard work and cheerful personality.

Bob lived life and passed away on his own terms. His stubbornness was tempered with an amazing ability to befriend everyone he met. He never met a stranger. Bob was almost always the smartest guy in the room. His dry wit meant you had to be sharp to catch his jokes, but he had plenty of them. He had a lifelong love affair with cool cars and the NY Yankees. Most important, however, was his love of family. Holidays and vacations at beaches and theme parks alongside his family were the some of the best times of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy; sons, David Roberts and wife, Audrey, of Fort Mill, SC and Christopher Roberts and wife, Christy, of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren Travis Deason and significant other, Maddison of Rock Hill, SC, and Luke Roberts of Clemson, SC; great grandchildren Haiden, Delila, and Levi.

He was preceded by a whole bunch of dogs, especially dachshunds.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, and staff at Piedmont Medical Center for their unwavering compassionate and supportive care that was provided. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

A service will be held at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home at 4pm, Saturday, October 2, 2021. The family asks that everyone please wear a mask and help stop the spread of Covid-19.
