Beverly Parsons Bidwell

Beverly Parsons Bidwell, nee Bales, 91, died December 27, 2020 at Westminster Health & Rehab Center in Rock Hill, SC, five days following the death of her husband, John Bidwell.

Beverly was born and raised in Homeville, PA (now West Mifflin).  Her parents were Leonard and Anna Bales, now deceased.

She graduated from Slippery Rock State Teacher’s College (now Slippery Rock University) in 1951 with a degree in early education. She married John Bidwell immediately following her graduation.

Beverly and John ultimately settled in Bethel Park, PA where they raised their family. Beverly was a kindergarten teacher for many years, teaching in Peters Township, first at St. David’s Episcopal church’s kindergarten program and then at Pleasant Valley Elementary school.

They retired to Fripp Island, SC where they lived for 16 years. When it was time to move inland, they moved to Rock Hill, SC, where they have lived for the past 14 years.

Beverly and John celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in August, 2020.

Beverly is survived by her children, Daniel Bidwell, Jill McCauslin, and Joyce Hutchinson, her grandsons, Eric Hutchinson and Nick McCauslin (Mary), and her great-granddaughters Emily and Abigail.

Her brother George Bales preceded her in death.

Beverly loved flowers. She tended to her flower gardens with care and enjoyed creating flower arrangements.

John and Beverly travelled extensively. They sought out national parks and presidential libraries and museums as they travelled the country. They toured both the US and Europe.

Beverly was an avid golfer and won the club championship one year at Fripp Island. She enjoyed the comradery of her women’s and couples’ leagues.

She enjoyed cooking, crafts, and entertaining. She was a gracious hostess and a good friend to many.

Beverly was a voracious reader, loved public libraries, and often attended author’s readings.

A memorial service for both John and Beverly Bidwell will be held at 2:00 PM on January 23, 2021 at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home, 700 Heckle Blvd, Rock Hill, SC 29730. The service will also be streamed on Facebook Live and then available on the Palmetto Funeral Home Facebook page.
