Bernard Klena Obituary

Bernard Joseph Klena, age 81 of Tega Cay, SC and formerly of N. Royalton, Ohio passed away according to his wishes, at home on Monday, March 1, 2021, when he went on to play greener fairways. Husband of Dawn Klena (Preising); father of Patricia Klena Savage, Grandfather of Rose Hood; brother of Robert Klena (wife Deborah); brother of Alan Klena (wife Karen); brother-in-law of Scott Preising (wife Debra); uncle of Bradley (wife Kristy), Pamela, Amy, Matthew, Michael: great uncle of Katie Grace and Alex.

After high school in Uniontown PA, Bernie served in the Navy on a Tin Can and was honorably discharged. He later moved to Cleveland, Ohio where eventually his aptitude for numbers landed him in the financial arena and  he learned  a  no nonsense attitude as a credit collector/repo man and eventually became a branch manager for Midland Guardian Co. It was during these years that he was married to Linda Klena (Leonard) and they had Patricia. Life changes and so do jobs and family status. Bernie married Dawn in 1982 and made a living through owning his own furniture store Showcase Interiors and Joseph Thomas Living Rooms Only.

Later he sold cars at Tradewinds and wholesaled cars through Quinn's Auto. Bernie and Dawn moved from North Royalton to Tega Cay in 2000. Through the years she initially taught him to ski and he improved her golf. He won the Men's Sr. Club Championship at the same time she won the Ladies at Tega Cay Golf course in 2001. Golf was always a topic of conversation. Bernie was a Bladder, kidney and lymphoma cancer survivor since 2009 and was Mr. January for Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center calendar in 2014 where he was quoted, "I am adept at finding motivation in the face of hardship. When the going gets tough, I check my worries - and my bags- and go on a trip with my wife. Whether it is skiing, golfing or gambling in Vegas, I find myself refreshed and ready to put on my game face when I return." Bernard Klena
