Alexander "Zippy" Edwards, Jr. Obituary

Alexander Edwards Jr. “Zippy”, 59 of Rock Hill, SC peacefully went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Atrium Healthcare in Charlotte NC.

He was born on September 23, 1961 in Rock Hill SC son of the late Alexander Edwards Sr and Lois Davis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Alexander Gaines (Cosell).

Zippy has always been ambitious since he started working at 16. He has always kept busy working jobs from hanging sheetrock with his brother Bernard to becoming a cook at KFC for over 25 years which he retired from due to his health, but he still loved cooking for his family. Zippy loved telling jokes, having fun and making sure his family was taken care of. He was a humble laid-back man, never for trouble, always peaceful. Zippy liked fishing, watching martial arts movies, his favorite actors were Bruce Lee and John Claude Van Damme. His football team was The Dallas Cowboys. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also getting ready to welcome his first Granddaughter, but he shall be with her in spirit.

Most important to him was his family and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.

He leaves to be cherished by his survivors his wife of 31 years, GaVonda Murray-Edwards. Sons Johnathon Cousar (Amanda) of Rock Hill SC and Keenen Edwards (Bridgette) of Rock Hill SC. Five sisters Lucille McClure, Dorothy Hutchinson, Jacqulin Watson (Gene) all of Rock Hill SC. Mary Davis of Columbia SC and Janice Dunham (Terry) of Catawba SC. One brother Ronald Bernard Burris (Wendy) of Rock Hill SC and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the physicians at Atrium Health Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute and to all the nurses on 7B floor at Atrium Healthcare.

A special thanks to Cherie Cone and Talicia Spann and to the attendants that set with Zippy during his time of need.

Everyone’s unwavering compassionate supportive care that was provided was greatly appreciative. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
