Carlos
Jan 18, 1949 — Jun 30, 2026

Brighton Gardens of Charlotte
Starts at 6:00 pm (Eastern time)
Dr. William Edward Carlos, born in New Bethlehem, PA on January 18, 1949, passed away June 30, 2026, at the Brighton Gardens Nursing Care Facility in Charlotte, NC.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Ellen Andrews Carlos, and his parents, William and Anne Carlos of New Bethlehem, PA.
He is survived by his sister, Rosanne Cook (Rod) of Worthington, PA; his brothers-in-law, Stephen Andrews (Nancy), Robin Andrews (Lonna), and Robert Andrews (Gayle); along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
Bill attended Redbank Valley High School and later Penn State University, where he earned three degrees, including a Doctorate in Solid State Physics. After graduation, he spent his entire career working at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. Upon retiring, Bill and Ellen moved to Brevard, North Carolina, where they lived happily for about 15 years.
It was a well-known rule among family and friends to never bother Bill during a Steelers game. He fiercely loved the Black and Gold; he wore their T-shirts constantly, and they were always his favorite blankets.
He also looked forward to spending several weeks at the family cabin in Wisconsin each summer, where he spent his time relaxing and doing a tad bit of fishing.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at Brighton Gardens for their years of loving care, and a very special thank you to Annie Peebles—a dear personal friend and caregiver—for her dedicated support.
A Memorial Service for Bill will be held at Brighton Gardens on Sunday, July 19th at 6:00 PM for family, friends, and nursing home staff.
In honor of Bill’s passion for the Steelers, attendees are warmly invited to wear black and gold to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Transylvania Animal Alliance Group (TAAG), Catman2, or to the animal charity of your choice, in honor of Bill’s love of cats.
