William "Bill"
Hartford

Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church (Fort Mill, SC)

William “Bill” Hartford was a man of quiet strength, deep integrity, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, country, and community. He passed away on October 13 at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of selfless service and love that will forever guide those who knew him.
He attended Dean Junior College and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country for three years. A brave veteran of the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifice and service.
After his Honorable Discharge, Bill continued his education and earned his Master’s Degree in Business from Fairleigh Dickinson University, laying the foundation for a long and distinguished career. In 1970, he began working for Sandoz Chemicals (which later became Clariant), where his loyalty and strong work ethic defined his professional life. Through years of steadfast commitment, he rose through the ranks to retire as the Operations Manager.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting, fishing, and spending any moment he could in nature. Yet, his true passion lay in serving others. Whether lending a hand to his neighbors or dedicating countless hours to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Bill was happiest helping those around him. He preferred to work quietly in the background, never seeking praise or wanting to be the center of attention.
Above all else, Bill treasured his family. His dedication to them was unmatched, always placing their needs above his own and making everyone in his life feel uniquely special. He loved family time, especially their cherished annual trips to Longboat Key, Florida. The love of his life was his devoted wife of 56 years. Together, they shared a wonderful life filled with travel, companionship, and deep affection.
Bill is survived by his wife, Pat; his four children, Kim Bailes (Dean), Bill Hartford (Jessie), Karen Pok (Scott), and Kristy Spears (Rick Carpenter); his eight grandchildren, Kaitlin, Will, Zachary, Tanner, Nate, Kinsley, Callen, and Brady; and many loving extended family members.
Bill was a man of honor whose humility, generosity, and character set an example for all who knew him. Anyone lucky enough to have spent quality time with him understands what a privilege it was to have him in their lives. He left us too soon, but those who loved him will strive every day to live by the standard he set. Though we mourn his loss, we are forever grateful for the time we shared with him. Bill, you will be dearly missed, but your legacy of love and integrity will live on forever.
Please join us on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate his life. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road E, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
