Walter Douglas McGarity Jr

Walter Douglas McGarity Jr. (Chuck), passed away on 12/21/2025 at the age of 79. He Served as a deep sea diver serving in Vietnam as a salvage diver. After returning from Vietnam he left the service and was Chief of Police in Landrum County SC. He returned to the service where he was a Senior Master Chief Petty Officer (Master-at-Arms), United States Navy (Ret.). After retiring from the Navy he worked as a firearms instructor for Blackwater, USA.

Born in Arcadia, South Carolina, Chuck proudly served 28 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Senior Master Chief Petty Officer. He was known for his steady leadership, dedication to duty, and deep love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Douglas McGarity Sr.; his mother, Marzelle Martin McGarity; his sister Phyliss McGarity Pittman; and best friend Buddy Murray.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne McGarity; his sister, Lucy McGarity Towery; and his children: Gina McGarity Jernigan (Philip), Walter Douglas McGarity III (Lesa), David Eric McGarity, Laura McGarity Mast (Shaun), Sara Davis and Melissa Stewart (Vaughn).

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Zachary A.J. Hearn (Kayleena), Alexander A.K. Gardner, Taylor Anne McGarity, Walter Douglas McGarity IV (Devin), Ava McGarity, Madison Davis, Lily McGarity, Bella Davis, Riley Elliott, Liam Davis, and Amelia Stewart, Jeremy McGarity, Virginia Mae Mast and his great-grandchildren: Eli Gardner, Elena James Hearn, Cash M. Gardner, Hendrix J. Gardner, and Ronan C. Hearn.
