Walter P. Atalski, Jr., 73, of Fort Mill, SC passed away on August 13, 2021 after a long, difficult battle with cancer.

Walt was born in Waynesburg, PA on March 6, 1948.  He graduated from Carmichaels High School and continued on to receive his Bachelor Degrees in psychology and sociology from Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, PA followed by a MA in clinical psychology from Marshall University in Huntington, WV.

Walt was a Vietnam veteran.  He retired from the Army at the rank of Sergeant Major. During his active duty service he was awarded the following medals:  National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal – Marksman, Good Conduct Medal.

Walt was married to Elizabeth Fazzari (Liz) on August 25, 1973; they were married 47 years.  Walt worked as a systems engineer for Homeland Security for the last 18 years.  He enjoyed playing competitive Bridge, scuba diving, and computers.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW.  He was also actively involved in his Sunday School at Calvary Church of Charlotte.

Walt is survived by his wife Liz, daughters Heather (Bob) Miller and Brandy (Randy) Stilner, grandchildren Isaiah and Hope Stilner, a sister Laurie (Richard) Crossland and other family and friends.

Walt is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Ruth (Guesman) Atalski.

The visitation and funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill, SC.  Burial will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC on Friday, August 20, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Judes Children’s Hospital in hopes that cures for cancer will be found.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill, SC.
