Vera Dugal Lafleur passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, in Tega Cay, South Carolina, at the age of 92. Born on November 26, 1933, in Sunset, Louisiana, Vera was the eldest daughter in her family and spent her early years creating and directing plays in the barn with her sister, Josie Del Latiolais, and their neighborhood friends and cousins.
Vera pursued her passion for writing at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where she served as the editor of the college newspaper. After graduating, she married Ted Lafleur and embarked on a life of various relocations due to her husband’s Air Force service and his career as a chemist. Throughout her life, Vera's professional journey was marked by her diverse roles as a journalist, school teacher, social worker, and script writer/producer for corporate training videos. She also authored several short stories and books, including the notable "A Message from Julie."
Her commitment to community service shone through her volunteer work at local schools, where she dedicated her time to helping underprivileged children. Vera's zest for life extended to her personal hobbies; she was an avid traveler who explored many corners of the world, including Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China, Egypt, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Belize.
Vera's legacy continues through her family, who remember her lovingly. She is survived by husband, Ted Lafleur; her five children, Elizabeth Zeibel (Joe), Catherine Merry (Gary), Cynthia Ormseth (Bob), Gary LaFleur (Reagan), and Alan LaFleur (Morgan), as well as her five grandchildren: Danielle, Alex, Alaina, Nicole and Aaron; step grandson Jason, and one niece, Renee.
A service to celebrate Vera's life will be held at the Palmetto Funeral Home on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 10 AM.
