Obituary

Tanya “Nana” Hutto Curran, 78, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Born on March 24, 1947 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Tanya was the daughter of the late George Manning Hutto and Inez Myers McCollum. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather Phil McCollum.

Tanya is survived by her daughter Jennifer Curran of Lexington, South Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law Jeff Curran (Nicole Matros) of Columbia, South Carolina and Michael Curran (Lyn) of Milton, Georgia; granddaughter Sophie Curran of Columbia, South Carolina; and brother Myers Hutto of Fredericksburg, Virginia. She is also survived by her most special friend and caregiver in later years Brenda Brandon of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and her goddaughter Emma Brandon also of Rock Hill.

Tanya retired from Piedmont Medical Center after more than 40 years of faithful service, many of which were spent working in the Pathology department for the wonderful Doctors James Maynard, Earl Jenkins, and Rob Thomas. She was an active member of Oakdale Baptist Church where she was a devoted nursery worker and Nana who had a special way of nurturing the many babies she cared for.

She enjoyed her many trips to Myrtle Beach, where she could be found sitting on a balcony overlooking the beach with her loyal Yorkiepoo Macie and sweet granddog Maggie - her M&M girls - by her side. She was a fierce competitor of Phase 10 and Words with Friends, and loved listening to music, especially Sandi Patti and Josh Groban, and collecting angel figurines. In her younger years, she was a masterful piano player, playing mostly by ear after having only minimal training. Her greatest joy in life, however, was spending time with family and friends who adored her and will miss her terribly.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Hospice and Community Care, especially Stephanie Brewer, and Dr. James Maher of Carolina Cardiology for their care and compassion.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Oakdale Baptist Church, 1249 Oakdale Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. We request that everyone wear Tanya’s favorite color purple, to honor her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Oakdale Baptist Church Nursery and Children’s Ministry.
