Susan Kay Mathiason

October 13, 1953 — September 9, 2025

Fort Mill, SC

Susan Kay (Clark) Mathiason 71, of Fort Mill, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025. She was born on October 13, 1953, in Dayton, Ohio, to Dale and Marilyn Clark.

She grew up in Dayton with her three brothers and carried with her a lifelong love of family, learning, and community. She married the love of her life, John Mathiason, with whom she shared many years of devotion until his passing in 2024.

A devoted homemaker, she poured her energy and heart into raising her family and serving her community. She loved volunteering in schools and at local events, always willing to give her time and her ear to others. She had an extraordinary gift for listening and offering kindness.

Her interests were as wide as her spirit was generous—she loved traveling to new places, losing herself in a good book, and keeping up with the latest technology. But above all, she cherished time with her family.

She is survived by her loving mother, Marilyn Clark; her three children, Laurie Sturgeon and her husband Steve, Abby Mathiason, and Nicholas Mathiason and his wife Lydia; and her beloved grandchildren, Keaton, Elsie, and Elin. She is also survived by her brothers, Dick, Steve, and Jeff Clark.

She will be remembered as a woman of warmth, generosity, and quiet strength—someone who made those around her feel heard, valued, and loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and kindness will carry on through her family and the countless lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor her memory in a way she would have loved—by picking up a book and reading it in her honor.
