Sonny Cook

Jesup, Ga. - Mr. Melvin "Sonny" Monroe Cook, Jr. 49, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 20, 2013.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at New Vision Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, SC, Mr. Cook was a son of Melvin Monroe Cook, Sr. and Genny Williams Cook. He rebuilt transmissions for 20 years and for the past 5 years he worked for Carter's Dredging Company in Jesup, Ga.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a son, Michael Reed Cook and his wife Jessica; a daughter, Katie Darlene Cook; a brother, Keith Cook and five sisters, Cindy Upchurch and her husband, Tommy, Janice Lindsay and her husband, David, Donna Cook Bodiford, Renae Stewart and her husband, Bo, and Julie Cook Commander and her husband, Jeff. He was expecting his first grandchild.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at New Vision Freewill Baptist Church.
