Obituary

Our beloved and irreverent matriarch, Sheryl Jane Drew, peacefully passed on May 5, 2026, surrounded by family.

She was born and raised in Gardner, Kansas to Kenneth and Valentine Fraser and was the third of four siblings. She was a beautiful lady, greatly loved and voted homecoming Queen at Gardner High. She attended Kansas State University, and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. There she met the love of her life, Douglas Drew, whose career in retail petroleum led them across the US, ending up in Charlotte, NC where he was one of the founders of Petro Express. They moved to a log cabin in Wilkesboro NC which he designed for their retirement in 2003 where she lived until 2019.

Sheryl was a dedicated wife, mother of four and grandmother who was equal parts resolute, generous, witty and loving. She was a competitive tennis player prior to an auto accident in 1987. A professional bargain shopper, she treated a sale as a sporting event. No shell was safe on the shore if Sheryl was taking a walk on the beach. A self-proclaimed Princess, Sheryl’s authentic persona endeared herself to all who met her, much to her introverted chagrin.

She is survived by her children, Ashley Wilkes(Todd), Korey (Kerry) and Mandy Reese (Kevin); 10 grandchildren; and siblings, Jean Somerhalder and Jeff Fraser, and many nieces and nephews. Our family is comforted that she is reunited with her husband Douglas and her oldest son, Kevin as well as her parents, grandparents, and oldest brother Sidney.

We are grateful for the loving care she received from VIA hospice and Wellmore of Tega Cay.

A celebration of Sweet Sheryl’s life will take place at Scenic Memorial Gardens in Wilkesboro, NC at 1pm on May 10, 2026.
