Sherrill Steven Speers

August 30, 1950 — May 29, 2025

Charlotte, NC

Sherrill Speers, a devoted husband, father, and accomplished business leader, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at the age of 74.

Sherrill’s life was defined by quiet strength and steadfast dedication to his family and career. He graduated from Wright State University in 1973 with a degree in Business and went on to complete General Electric’s prestigious Financial Management Program—an early testament to his keen analytical mind and leadership potential.

He spent 19 years with General Electric, rising to an executive role within the Aircraft Engine Group. He later held executive positions at Scientific Atlanta, the international manufacturing firm Morgan Crucible Company, Vice President of Finance for RTI International Development Group, culminating as CFO for Private Equity investments.

Beyond his professional achievements, Sherrill was a true friend, helpful neighbor, fun uncle, but most of all he was a deeply loyal and loving family man. He is survived by his high school sweetheart & beloved wife of 54 years, Phyllis Speers; his four children, Nathan Christopher Speers (Jen), Nicholas Stephen Speers, Samantha Marie Speers (Tom), and Stephen Christopher Speers (June); his three grandchildren, Ben, Maddie, and Emma; and his older brother, Phil Speers. He was preceded in death by his siblings Ronald Speers, David Speers, and Sandy Wysong.

Sherrill will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, dry wit, funny stories (or tall tales!) and enduring commitment to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped and the example he set.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service. A private scattering of his ashes will be held by his immediate family. Those who wish to honor his memory may do so with a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research hospital, an organization he passionately supported.
