Sarah Johnson Totherow

Mrs. Sarah Johnson Totherow, 85, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at her home in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Born in Fort Mill, Sarah was the daughter of the late S.B. Johnson and Lillie Mae Johnson, and the devoted wife of the late Elmer J. Totherow. Sarah was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Helms and Patsy Meachum, and her late son-in-law, Larry Jackson.

Sarah was a lifelong member of Fort Mill Church of God, where she served faithfully in the children’s ministry and community outreach, including Vacation Bible School and preparing meals for church events. She enjoyed monthly visits with the Golden Girls. Her membership has now been transferred to her heavenly home.

Known for her hardworking spirit, she and her husband, Elmer, operated several family businesses. Her meticulous bookkeeping earned praise from SCDMV clerks and tax auditors alike.

Surviving is her brother, Rev. Bobby Johnson (Phyllis); sister, Joyce Weaver; three children, Ronnie E. Totherow (Pamela), Cynthia Grigg (David), and Eric Totherow (Alice); grandchildren Todd and Tyler Totherow; Stephen Jackson (Joanie), Chris Jackson (Emily); Clifton and Harrison Totherow; Jaime Lynn Pigg (Ryan); and great-grandchildren Tegan and Remi Totherow; Russell and Wesley Totherow; Chloe and Wyatt Jackson; Carter and Carcyn Jackson; Havah and Fendt Pigg.

She was lovingly known as “Mamaw” and will be remembered for her warmth, hospitality, unwavering faith, and especially her cooking.

Funeral services will be held at Fort Mill Church of God, on Academy Street at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, with burial at Unity Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug 5, from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Fort Mill Church of God.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Larry Jackson Scholarship Fund for Ecuador at Fort Mill Church of God.
