Sandra Sue Brooks McAlister, born February 2, 1943, in Dallas, Texas passed away surrounded by the love of her family and caregivers on March 4, 2026, at the age of 83.
Sandra was a devoted Christian who gave her life to Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She not only believed in her faith deeply, but she lived it daily and raised her sons to have a strong foundation in Christ. Throughout her life, she was actively involved in church ministry—coordinating art departments, teaching Bible school, participating on worship teams, and serving wherever she was needed. She went on several mission trips both domestically and overseas, always eager to share her faith and serve others.
Sandra’s love for worship shone brightest when she gathered with family—grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins—to spend hours singing acapella hymns of worship and praise. Sandra’s legacy of joyful worship continues to unite and inspire the generations of her family.
After graduating from Sam Houston State University, Sandra began her career as an elementary school teacher in Arlington, Texas. In 1979, she started a new career in pharmaceutical sales, which took her and her twin sons to Waco, Texas. She later moved to Pflugerville, Texas, where she continued her work until retiring in 2006.
In 2007, Sandra moved to the Charlotte, North Carolina area, where she became involved in community theater, most notably with the Fort Mill Playhouse. She delighted audiences in productions including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Harvey, Arsenic and Old Lace, and The Aurelia Women’s League Flower and Garden Show Gala Planning Committee. Sandra loved performing and brought energy, humor, and heart to every role she played. Her love of performing began early as a member of the Golden Debs dance team at South Oak Cliff High School and continued throughout her life.
Sandra moved to Abilene, Texas in 2019, and remained active in music as a member of the Hillcrest Singers at Hillcrest Church of Christ.
Sandra was known to many at Sunflower Springs – Lake Wylie for speaking openly about her faith and reading her Bible. Sandra lived with the confident hope that she would spend eternity in the presence of her Lord, a hope that guided her life and sustained her through every season.
Sandra will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, wonderful sense of humor, love for her family and church, talent for performance, and steadfast faith. Her sons could not have asked for a more supportive mom—she faithfully attended soccer games, choir and orchestra concerts, talent shows, church youth events, and ACU functions. Most importantly, she taught her sons the value of faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Sandra’s legacy continues through her children, grandchildren, extended family, and all who were fortunate to know her.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents Balford and Genevieve Brooks; her sisters, Billie Joyce Larr and Sharon Stone; and her brother, James Brooks.
She is survived by her twin sons, Kyle McAlister and his wife Amy of Abilene, Texas, and Lance McAlister and his wife Michelle of Charlotte, North Carolina. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to five grandchildren: Maggie Sue and her husband Kevin of Dublin, Ireland; Macy and her husband Trae of Fort Worth, Texas; Bethany and her husband Jake of Columbia, South Carolina; Cassie of Wilmington, North Carolina; and Walker of Dallas, Texas. She is also lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished their “Aunt Sue.”
Memorial service plans are pending.
