Robert Shellito

Robert Wayne Shellito, age 79, of Fort Mill, SC passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2025. He was born May 24, 1946 in Rock Hill, SC to Harold and Clementine Shellito. The family lived in the Sumter, SC area for some time as well.

As a boy, Robert (Rob) was active in the Boy Scouts of America and talked often of his love for camping and hiking. As a young man, Robert volunteered for service in the US Army and spent almost two years (1966 – 1968) in Germany during the Vietnam War. Naturally, he was proud of his service to the country and spoke often of this time in his life. He retired from General/Continental Tire in Charlotte, NC.

Robert was a member of Westerly Hills Baptist Church in Fort Mill and enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and spending time with family. He was an outgoing and caring person of strong faith, always eager to help friends, family, or anyone in need.

Robert will be remembered by his sons, Tony and Troy Shellito (first wife, Joyce); sisters, Jean Motte and Christi Hodge; stepdaughter, Barbara Funderburk; stepdaughter, Jenny Caveny; stepson, Brad Merritt; sister-in-law, Lynn Paquette; brother-in-law, Stan Paquette; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild; nieces, and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Merritt Shellito; wife, Adele Earls Shellito; stepdaughter, Teresa Irene Murray Williams; stepson, Wayne Murray, Jr; his brothers, Joe and Lewis Shellito.

A graveside service will be held September 18th, 2025 at 11 am at the Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery in Fort Mill, SC.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the hospice staff at VIA Health Partners who helped care for Rob over the last few months and the staff at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House (Charlotte, NC) for their wonderful care and support.
