Robert Lee McSparin, age 94, of Rock Hill S.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 7, 2026 while in Hospice care.
Robert was born in southern Illinois to John and Myrtle McSparin on September 10, 1931. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
Bob had a long career in management in the food manufacturing industry. Concurrently, he proudly served in the US Coast Guard Reserves from 1955-1991, retiring with the rank of Commander. Bob had a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit which motivated him even after retirement to continue in many business ventures especially in the area of energy conservation. Over the years he enjoyed playing golf and stayed active teaching Sunday School and bible studies at his church.
Bob is survived by his children Richard (Barbara) McSparin; Steven (Kathleen) McSparin; and Martha ( James) Griffo; as a well as a total of 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He always said that he and his wife counted this family as their greatest blessing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Vera McSparin and his son Phillip McSparin (age 60).
A Celebration of life is planned for Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rock Hill, SC. where they were members for almost 40 years. Memorial donations may be made to one Robert’s favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
