Robert Marshall Jones concluded his earthly journey Wednesday, April 29, at his home in Rock Hill. Jones had an illustrious career as an attorney, having argued before the U.S. Supreme Court, and helping the Catawba Indian Reservation gain federal recognition in 1993. Jones also served as a Magistrate for York County for several years. He was a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. Jones was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was also engaged in his local community as a member of Rock Hill Masonic Lodge #111 and Catawba Chapter #131 Order of Eastern Star, as well as other Masonic bodies including the York Rite, Scottish Rite, and Shrine. For more than 40 years, Jones served as an adult leader at the local, state and international level for DeMolay International. Through his volunteerism, he mentored thousands of young men and taught them the timeless values of being good sons, good men, and good citizens. Jones was born in 1943 in Columbia. His family moved to Rock Hill in 1949. Jones was a 1962-graduate of Rock Hill High School. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in 1967 and a Juris Doctorate in 1971. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Marshall Jones; his mother, Vera Mae Jones; and his brother, Larry Wayne Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Nancy Smith Jones; his children, Ashley Jones Lawson (Greg) of Silver Spring, MD, and Paul Marshall Jones (Amanda) of Knightdale, NC; as well as three beautiful grandchildren Carol Ruth Lawson, Gavin Marshall Jones and Mary Grace Lawson. The interment will be held at Grand View Memorial Park Saturday, May 2, at 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, SC.
