Fort Mill, SC

Rita McGeady, age 78, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025.

Born in Port Salon, County Donegal, Ireland, Rita was one of seven sisters and carried her Irish roots with her throughout her life. As a young girl, her family moved to Scotland, first to Paisley and later to Glasgow, where she met her husband, Jim. They married in 1974, beginning a lifelong partnership marked by love, loyalty, and shared adventure.

In 1977, Rita and Jim immigrated to the United States and settled in Northern Virginia, where they welcomed their son, Ian Thomas. Later in life, they moved to Fort Mill to be close to Ian and his wife, Kelly, as they started their family. Rita found great joy in her role as a grandmother to Amelia, Mack, and Hayes.

Rita is survived by her husband Jim; her son Ian; daughter-in-law Kelly; grandchildren Amelia, Mack, and Hayes; and her sisters Anna, Vera, Nora, Mary, and Kathleen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Mary Friel, and her sister, Sarah Morgan.

Rita will be remembered for her kindness and devotion to her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in support of the Rebuild to Serve program.
