Raymond Hans Weiss, 88, of Indian Land, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 9:30 p.m. at Atrium Health Pineville in Charlotte, North Carolina, following a lengthy illness.
Born in 1937 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to Hans Robert Weiss and Martha Emilie Ehrentreich, Ray grew up in Conneaut, Ohio. He made the Carolinas his home for many decades, residing in Rock Hill and later Fort Mill/Indian Land, South Carolina.
Ray began his long career with Reliance Electric as a teenager in the early 1950s in Cleveland, initially stocking parts. He officially joined the company in 1957 and dedicated more than 45 years to the organization as it evolved. Over the decades he served in Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Phoenix before completing his career at the Rock Hill, South Carolina facility. Through every corporate transition—from Reliance Electric to Rockwell International in 1986 and later to Rockwell Automation—Ray remained a loyal and skilled employee until his retirement on October 1, 2002.
After retirement, Ray continued giving back to his community. He volunteered extensively with the AARP Driver Safety Program, rising from instructor to area coordinator and eventually serving as state coordinator for South Carolina for many years. He also devoted significant time to Faith Presbyterian Church in Indian Land, where he served as treasurer and contributed countless hours to the church and its congregation.
On November 29, 1969, Ray married Elin Clair Babcock. They shared 56 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Elin Clair Weiss; sons John Robert Weiss (Catherine) and Jason Allen Weiss (Candace); nine grandchildren: Armando, Delilah, Anesia, Richie, Lauren, Santana, Trinity, Ivan, and Kattianna; and eight great-grandchildren.
Final arrangements and services are still pending and will be announced by the family.
