Opal Whitesides Cobb

Opal Whitesides Cobb, 95, formerly of McConnells, passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 at White Oak Manor. A native of Griffin GA, Mrs. Cobb was born July 27, 1914 a daughter of the late Walter Barron and Nora Lee Whitesides. She was the oldest living member of Olivet Presbyterian Church in McConnells. Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by her husband Sloan Douglas Cobb, Sr.; three sisters and two brothers. Surviving are her sons Douglas Cobb and wife Goldean of McConnells, Michael Cobb and wife Denise; daughters Maxine Lowrance, Joanne Marshall and husband Barnes all of Rock Hill; brother Charles O. Whitesides of Mitchell, Iowa; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Cobb will be held Sunday at 2:30pm at Grandview Memorial Park with Reverend John M. McArthur officiating.
