Obituary

MaryAnne Long, 94, of Fort Mill, SC passed away peacefully after a long battle with health issues Saturday May 23, 2026 at Atrium Healthcare in Pineville with her daughter by her side.

MaryAnne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul C. Long Jr, her parents Richard and Edna Troup, and brother and sister Richard Troup and Nancy (Troup) Purdy.

MaryAnne graduated from Ohio University and went to work educating young children in Columbus Ohio before a enjoying short stint as a Bridal Consultant with Cole of Columbus. After marrying Paul, she supported his career until they landed in Pickerington Ohio to raise a family. She went back to work in 1980 in the Pickerington School District as an Elementary school teacher until her retirement in 1996. From there she and Paul moved to Myrtle Beach, SC to enjoy the retirement life, until grandchildren moved them to High Point, NC. She and Paul lived in High Point for 10 years until they followed their daughter to Fort Mill, SC the summer of 2007.

MaryAnne loved reading, crocheting, enjoying a Butterfinger Blizzard, talking on the phone with friends and family, going to Bible study and having lunch with her Birthday Club, but her favorite activity was spending time with her grandchildren. You would often find her front row hooting and hollering at swim meets, band concerts or encouraging artistic talent. She was also fascinated with weather often commenting that she really should have been a meteorologist! She could talk to anyone and would know everything about them in a very short time. She had a caring heart and infectious laugh, one that you couldn’t help laugh with her.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Long) Stansbery, Grandchildren Sophia and Spencer Stansbery, Sister Elizabeth (Troup) Rogers, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at her home 929 Gardenia Street, Fort Mill, SC on Saturday July 11, 2026 at 11:00 am. Attendees are encouraged to wear fun and bright colors in honor of her joyful spirit.
