Mary “Sue” Childers, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away on September 1, 2026, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, at the age of 96. Originally from Earl, North Carolina, Sue lived a full and meaningful life surrounded by family and loved ones.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Warren and Hope Ross, and her beloved husband, Woodrow “Woody” Childers.

She is survived by her daughter, Teri Pope; her grandson, Gene Pope (Rebecca); her great-grandchildren, Mikaela, Willa, Jacob, and Ian Pope; as well as nieces, nephews, and many other loved ones who will miss her dearly.

Sue retired from Celanese, where she worked as a supervisor. She was a no-nonsense woman who knew her own mind, yet she was fiercely devoted to her family and took great pride in those she loved. She enjoyed gardening, trips to the mountains, and picking apples—simple pleasures that brought her great joy. Her strength, independence, wit, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.

Above all, Sue loved her Lord. Her faith was an important part of her life, and her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with her beloved Woody.

Graveside services will be held at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., where she will be laid to rest beside Woody.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wayne Patrick Hospice House in memory of Sue.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
