Martha Lou “Marty” Haas, 91, of Columbus, Ohio, spent the last eighteen months of her life in Fort Mill, South Carolina to be near family. She passed away on January 9, 2026 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born in Ironton, Ohio on February 18, 1934 to Sereno and Margaret Shafer. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and son-in-law, Jim Ratliff. Her sister, Peggy, passed on the same day as Marty. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed.

She was married to the love of her life, Joe, for over 70 years. They shared many years of devoted companionship and unwavering support for one another. Together, they built a life filled with family and love. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her soulmate, Joe.

Marty was a devoted homemaker. She took pride in maintaining a meticulous home, preparing outstanding meals, was delighted in being surrounded by family and friends and being supportive to all. She was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio, as her faith was extremely important to her.

She is survived by daughters Carolyn Ratliff and Julie Carter; her four adored grandchildren, Heather, Holly (Grant), Nicole and Nathan (Michelle), and great-grandson Cooper; son-in-law Tom Carter; brother David (Honey), brother-in-law David; nieces and nephews; longtime friend Kevin; and her wonderful caregivers, especially Krystal.

Her family will hold a private celebration of life for Joe and Marty in 2026. A memorial service will be held at Somerby of Baxter Village following the Sunday church service on January 18, 2026.
