Martha Sue (Sandridge) Ferkol, 89, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Martha lived a full and vibrant life defined by strength, humor, compassion, and a deep love for those around her.
Born on September 27, 1936, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Martha was the daughter of Ariel “Happy” Morris and sister to Bill and Bob Sandridge, all of whom preceded her in death. From an early age, Martha showed a bright spirit and a fierce love of life that carried her through each chapter of her journey.
Martha grew up in Wheeling, where she graduated from Wheeling High School before attending West Liberty University. Her professional life was as dynamic as her personality—she worked as a dental hygienist, a dedicated fourth-grade teacher, a convention sales specialist at Oglebay, and later as a welcoming hostess at PB Friendly’s. In every role, she poured her heart into connecting with people, leaving lasting impressions through her warmth and quick wit.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Martin Ferkol, with whom she shared many years of laughter, joy, and countless memories. Together, they raised four children: Angie Huerta, Marcy Bowders, Andy Ferkol (Kelly Burke), and Christy DeLong (Bob). Her family was her greatest joy, and she delighted in her grandchildren—Jordan and David Huerta; Drew, Lindsay, and Lucas Ferkol; Savanna and Skyler DeLong; Holli Gray, RaeLynn and Nate Ingram; and her great grandchildren Harlow, Emrie, Declan, and Quinnie—each one bringing a new light to her life.
Martha’s playful spirit and zest for life were infectious. She was likely to be found listening to music, watching her favorite television shows (Monk, Mash, or football), working on a crossword or puzzle, enjoying a milkshake or trying her luck at the casinos. Her laughter was bright, her humor sharp, and her compassion boundless—traits that made everyone around her feel special. Though she has left this earthly home, her spirit will continue to shine through the family and friends she loved so deeply.
A celebration of Martha’s life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Friends and family will gather at 2:30 p.m. at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place, Fort Mill, SC, with a service officiated by Annie Cool beginning at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Carolina Breast Friends in Martha’s honor.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, she was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. Look for Martha somewhere over the rainbow.
