ROCK HILL - Margaret Helen Canty Beck, 93, of 1952 Reservation Road, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Piedmont Medical Center.


Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Catawba Ward. The family will receive friends noon- 8:00 PM Tuesday at the home.

A native of Rock Hill, Margaret was the daughter of the late Ernest Givens and Fannie Harris. She was also the widow of Samuel John Beck. During her life, she became a Cosmetologist for many years. She later worked in the Quality Control Lab at the Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company. Helen enjoyed making pottery and became a Master Potter. She also loved music and would perform live with many bands such as the Carolina Soul Band and the Coasters. Helen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and in her lifetime was very active holding many calling in the church. She will always be known for her contagious smile and for being a loving, dedicated mother and grandmother. She was called "mama" by many who knew her.

Surviving are her sons, Sammy Beck (Sue), Rod Beck (Lynn); her daughters, Phyllis Williams (Don), Shasta Troxel (Chuck); her sisters, Geneva Gunton, Joyce Greene and Diane Petrini, Judy Driggers, and Betty Driggers; her brothers, Alonzo Canty Jr., Edwin Canty, Eric Canty and Wally Canty; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Leon "Jerry" Beck; her brother, Heyward Jackson Canty; three sisters, Frances Wade, Alberta Ferrell, and Thelma Hendrix; one grandson, Tony Leon Carter; and Alonzo Canty, the man who raised her.
