Obituary

Laurie Catherine Herron, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on July 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and deep devotion to the people in her life.

Born in Pensacola, FL, Laurie spent her childhood moving all over the country enjoying the life of a Navy “brat.” She delighted in the opportunity to experience each new location, and all the places in between, with her family. Laurie always enjoyed spending holidays and summer breaks surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. As a big sister she could be counted on to use her imagination to entertain, take the lead in silly mischief, and stand up for her sisters when she felt they needed support. From a very young age Laurie was an avid reader and nearly always had a book in her hand.

Laurie was the beloved mother of Frank Conrad Wohlfarth and Anna Louise Wohlfarth of Charlotte. Her children were her life’s purpose. As a stay-at-home mother, Laurie dedicated herself fully to raising them, shepherding them from birth into the fantastic adults they are today. She gave them her love, her time, her guidance, her humor, and her steady presence. Her devotion to them was the defining joy and calling of her life.

Laurie earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a fitting reflection of her lifelong care for others. Later, she brought that same care and steadiness to her work, which ranged from software tester, to travel agent, to healthcare customer service.

She also gave generously to her community, including serving as co-leader of Girl Scout troop 3676 in Charlotte, the Ladybugs, for nearly 10 years. Through that role, and through the countless friendships she nurtured throughout her life, Laurie encouraged, supported, and cared for others with warmth and sincerity.

Laurie was a lover of music and comedy. She felt deeply moved by both, and loved to share this passion with those she loved, whether it was by enthusiastically singing along to classics in the car, attending concerts of new artists and embracing them fully, watching new comedy specials with her kids or reminiscing on classic routines with her sisters. Laurie passed her musical ear on to her daughter Anna, whose own taste in music was deeply shaped by her mother’s influence.

She was a creative spirit who enjoyed crafting, making jewelry, sewing, drawing, and experimenting in the kitchen, a hobby and skill she learned from her mother and passed along to her son Frankie. She also had a love for animals, especially her cat Tinkerbell who passed away in 2024 and was a true companion to her for 18 years.  Laurie spent her days laughing and learning, always curious about the world around her and exuding hope for anyone she lent a listening ear. She was a magnet for those in need of compassion and understanding, be it loved ones, friends, and strangers alike. Her empathy was one of her greatest and most tangible qualities as she truly embraced the Girl Scout mission to “make the world a better place.”

Laurie was a devoted caregiver to her mother, Marcia Pressnell, for multiple years until she ultimately passed away after a battle with dementia in 2024. She cherished all time spent with her family and continuously focused on providing support through difficult moments.

Laurie is survived by her children, Frank Conrad Wohlfarth and Anna Louise Wohlfarth; her father, Francis Herron; her sisters, Lynn Ann Herron, and Beth Freeman; her nephew, Isaiah Herron and her niece, Marley Freeman.

Laurie had a rare gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued. Her compassion, humor, and creativity will leave a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

To know Laurie was to love her. She will be greatly missed by her family, her close friends, the Girl Scouts whose lives she touched, and all who were blessed to cross her path.

A memorial service celebrating Laurie’s life will be held July 18th, 2026 at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill, SC.
