Judy Efird Helms, age 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 20, 2026.
Judy was born on April 30, 1946, to Spencer and Mary Efird. She grew up on Williamson Street and attended Fort Mill Schools. On May 9, 1964, she married her sweetheart, Wayme Helms, in her parents’ front yard, officiated by her uncle, Titus Efird. They shared 61 years of marriage. Judy had a servant’s heart and a love for people that touched everyone she met. She dearly loved her church and faithfully served as a greeter and an usher. Every Tuesday she volunteered at the food pantry, where she not only helped provide food but also prayed with anyone in need. She worked at Food Town in Fort Mill, where many remember her fondly - especially those who often said she gave them their first job.
Judy also loved working in her yard. Cutting the grass, tending her garden, and caring for her flowers brought her great joy. She had a special gift for nurturing plants - no matter how hopeless they looked, she could bring them back to life. She loved feeding the birds, especially her hummingbirds, always making sure they had plenty to eat.She enjoyed canning, making muscadine jelly, and baking homemade biscuits. Her dressing was a must-have at Thanksgiving and Christmas - no one could make it quite like she did. One of her most loved desserts was her famous strawberry “Yum Yum,” a recipe she never shared, even with family.
Of all the things Judy gave to those around her, her prayers will be missed the most. She always seemed to know exactly what to say. She loved Jesus with all her heart, and that love was clear to everyone who knew her. Judy is survived by her loving husband, Wayme Helms: her children Lorie (Tommy), Brian (Candace), and Amy: her six grandchildren, Alex, Jordan, Kennedy, Reece, Noah and Ragan: and her two great-grandchildren, Kirkley and Kate.
The family will receive friends, Wednesday, February 25th at 1pm with the Celebration of Life Service at 2pm at Fort Mill Church of God.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fort Mill Church of God Food Pantry.
