Obituary

John Lee Funk “Jack”, 81, of Fort Mill, SC peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday June 21, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 17, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Leo John Funk and Doris Ruth Horrocks.

Jack served in the US army from 1965-1968 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He worked as an Electronics Maintenance Supervisor for the US postal service from 1968 until he retired in July of 1999.

He faithfully attended Fairbluff Bible Chapel in Charlotte, NC. He liked to golf, play his guitar, and spend time at the shore. Most important to him was spending time with his family, and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He will be greatly missed and leaves a lasting and godly legacy to be cherished by his survivors: his wife of 57 years, Carol S. Barnes Funk; his son John Jr. and wife Diane Cherie of North Wilkesboro, NC; his daughter Kelly Sue Tripp and husband Kenyatta of York, SC; his son James Thomas and wife Karen Marie of Reading, PA; his grandchildren Connor Tripp and wife Esther, Jenna Germann and husband Cameron, Kaitlyn Tripp, Caleb Funk and Sondra Funk; and his first great-granddaughter Alexis Jade Germann. He is also survived by his sisters Betsy Mokry and husband Garry of Granite Falls, NC, and Grace Long and husband Paul of Longview, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A military graveside service will be held for family only on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 1:00pm at Grandview Memorial Park, 620 South Cherry Rd, Rock Hill, SC, 29732.

A memorial service will be held for both family and friends on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 2:30pm at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Dr, Fort Mill 29708. The family will receive visitors immediately following the memorial service.
