Joan Patricia Warminski McGill, 80, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 19, 1945, Joan was the youngest of three daughters to John and Mary Warminski. She grew up in a close-knit Polish neighborhood in northeast Philadelphia, where she developed a deep pride in her heritage and the values of love, loyalty, and togetherness—lessons learned especially from her devoted father and oldest sister, Marion.
Joan’s early years were filled with simple joys, strong family ties, and lifelong friendships. After graduating from high school, she began working full-time, where she met her treasured friends Betsy and Kathy. Through her social circles in Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore, Joan met Paul McGill, her future husband, who affectionately called her his “Polish Princess.” They were a perfect pair of opposites—Paul, ever the jokester and gambler; Joan, steadfast and full of grace. Their love was a partnership grounded in mutual respect and lasting affection.
The couple married and soon welcomed their first child, Kristin. Paul’s dental career then led them to Stuart, Florida, where Joan embraced the adventure of building a new life far from home. There, they added Cathy, Mike, and Marian to the family, and created a life filled with love, community, and meaningful friendships that endured for decades.
Joan was the heart and soul of the McGill family. Whether organizing holiday gatherings, commemorating milestones, or simply sending a card for no reason at all, she made everyone feel special. Her legendary greeting card and gift operation ensured no birthday, anniversary, or holiday went unnoticed—and her notes always arrived early, never late. Her warmth, thoughtfulness, and ability to make any moment feel like a celebration left an impression on everyone lucky enough to know her.
After Paul’s sudden passing 24 years ago, Joan faced the unknown with strength and grace. Though she experienced profound loss, she also found great joy in the years that followed, especially in the lives of her children and her greatest treasures—her grandchildren. Few things lit up her world more than the sound of their laughter or the chance to share in their lives.
Joan is survived by her beloved children Kristin Kong (Albert), Cathy Monte, Mike McGill (Meredith), and Marian Tison (Beau); and her cherished grandchildren Tanner Kong; Evan & Amelia Monte; Aislinn & Margaret McGill; and Graham, Maclane, & Whit Tison. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She is reunited in peace with her husband, Paul; her parents, Mary and John Warminski; and her sisters, Marion Palesano and Elaine Smith.
Joan lived a beautiful life filled with love, kindness, and purpose. Her legacy will live on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she kept, and the lives she touched. She will never be far from our thoughts.
The family is planning a service in Charlotte, NC in the fall for family and close friends to gather and celebrate her life, with details to follow soon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Joan’s memory to the American Heart Association or any charity that you feel worthy to commemorate her through
