Jimmy Ray Cloughly, age 71, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025 at his home in South Carolina after a nearly six-month battle with cancer. He was born on September 16, 1954 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Jack and LaNita Cloughly.
Jim earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Science and Computer Systems from Oklahoma State University in 1979. He went on to have a highly successful career as a computer programmer for major companies in eight states, including nearly 15 years of dedicated service as a developer with Harris Teeter Information Services. His colleagues described him as having a steady presence, technical expertise, a willingness to help others, and as someone who made a meaningful impact on the team and the organization.
After he retired in 2021, Jim chose to use his computer expertise to help others create better lives for themselves. He worked with his daughter, Jennifer, to create Aspire Learning Systems, a web-based instructional program that has helped hundreds of South Carolina adults earn their high school equivalency diplomas. In addition to his love of computers, Jim cherished the simple pleasures in life: his backyard, craft beer, and cigars.
Jim is survived by his loving spouse of 43 years, Cathy Cloughly; his daughter, Jennifer Cloughly; and his siblings, Sue Morse, Linda Burnett, and Bobby Cloughly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and LaNita Cloughly, and his sister, Tina Cloughly.
Information about Jim’s Celebration of Life will be available soon on his family’s social media accounts.
