Obituary

Jerry Wayne James Sr., 63, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away on October 22, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, a legacy of hard work, and a family who loved him dearly.

Jerry was truly one of a kind. From a young age, he was one of the hardest-working men anyone could meet. He took tremendous pride in providing for his family and giving them the best life possible. His dedication and strong work ethic were evident throughout his career with CSX ( Piggy Back Services) as a Terminal Operations Manager in Greenville, South Carolina; Piggy Back Services; and Penske Transportation Services in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Although Jerry took great pride in his work, nothing made him prouder than his family. He was a proud father, and when his grandchildren came along, his pride and joy grew even greater. His love for his children and grandchildren knew no bounds. They were his greatest joy, his proudest accomplishment, and the inspiration behind everything he worked so hard to provide.

Jerry believed in working hard and playing even harder. Whether he was relaxing by the pool, enjoying time at the beach (Little River) , or spending time at home, he knew how to make the most of life. He had a lifelong passion for hot rods, motocross, and NASCAR, and anything with a motor and a little speed was sure to capture his attention.

He also loved cooking and entertaining. Jerry was happiest when family and friends gathered around him to enjoy good food, share stories, laugh, and make memories. He knew how to have a good time, and he had a special way of making sure everyone around him did too.

Above all, Jerry was a family man. His greatest success was not measured by his career or accomplishments, but by the love he gave, the family he built, and the memories he created along the way.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Tegland James; his children, Jerry Wayne James Jr. (Dr. Haley James), Morgan Tegland, and Blythe Tegland (Madeline); and his beloved grandchildren, Mason James who brought him immeasurable joy and his new grand baby, Charlotte Tegland.

He is also survived by his loving sisters, Jamie James Harley (Brian) and Rhonda W. Riddle (Jon); his nieces, Lauren, Lindsey Harley, who called him “Fun Uncle,” Laken Riddle Williams (Parker), and Mica Riddle; and his great-nephews and great-niece, Cruz, Cole, and Annika. His Aunt Phyllis Smith, Cousins Cindy S Ruggerio and Melissa James.

Preceded In Death By: Beloved Son Corey Phillip James, Parents George Phillip James Jr. & Marlin June Grand Parents George Phillip James and Myrtice. Uncle Donald Paul James and cousins Stacy Kapps and Krystal Strickland.

Jerry’s legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. He taught those around him the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the joy of living life to its fullest.
