Jane “Jan” Edith Palmer Arnold, 73, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away on October 8, 2026. Born on January 27, 1953, Jan lived a life centered on family, faith, friendship, and service to others.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Deveaux Palmer and Jane Edith Spencer.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John Arnold; her five children and their families: Konrad Arnold (Heather) and their children, Keagan, Jacob, and William; Stephanie Hackett (Tom) and their children, Caitlyn, Carsyn, and Mackenzie; Kimberly Gillette (Daniel) and their children, Allison, Avery, and Lillian; Spencer Arnold (Claire); and Amanda Arnold (Jonathan) and their son, Oliver.
She is also survived by her brothers, Theodore Palmer (Joni), Stephen Palmer, Preston Palmer, and Peter Palmer (Tania), along with extended family and many dear friends.
A proud graduate of Clemson University, Jan was a devoted Clemson football fan who loved cheering on the Tigers, especially when she could attend games in person. She also enjoyed playing bridge and valued the friendships and fellowship that came with it.
Jan’s faith was an important part of her life. A longtime active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, she faithfully participated in numerous ministries and church activities. She was especially fond of her Bible study group, where she developed lasting friendships and found a meaningful sense of community.
Creative, generous and always willing to lend a hand, Jan loved sewing, cross-stitch, and needlepoint. She often put her talents to use for the benefit of others, particularly in support of her children’s activities. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader, was actively involved in Boy Scouts, and generously shared her sewing skills with the Fort Mill High School Marching Band, making marching band uniforms, color guard uniforms, and color guard flags. Whether volunteering her time or creating something by hand, Jan found joy in contributing to the people and organizations she cared about.
Her commitment to serving others extended throughout the Fort Mill community. Jan was a longtime volunteer at the Fort Mill Care Center and served on its Board of Directors for many years. Through her involvement, she gave generously of her time and talents, reflecting her caring nature and desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Above all, Jan’s greatest joy was her family. As a mother, she was a constant and enthusiastic presence in her children’s lives. Whether attending marching band competitions, gymnastics meets, soccer games, track meets, or countless other activities, Jan could always be found cheering them on. She gave freely of her time, energy, and encouragement, making sure her children always knew they had her unwavering love and support.
The same devotion carried into her role as a grandmother. Jan treasured time spent with her grandchildren, loved spoiling them whenever she could, and delighted in being part of their lives. The moments they shared and the memories they created together were among her greatest joys.
Jan will be remembered for her generous heart, creative spirit, steadfast faith, and deep love for her family and friends. She had a gift for showing up for others, whether through an act of service, a handmade creation, or simply being there when it mattered most. Her kindness, encouragement, and devotion touched many lives and leave a lasting legacy of love and cherished memories.
She will be deeply missed by her family, church community, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
