James (Jim) Thomas Turner, 74, passed away on September 1, 2026.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, to Geraldine Smith Turner and Walter R. Turner, Jim grew up in Salem, Illinois. It was in Salem that he met Becke Shinn, who would become his wife of more than 54 years.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in systems and data processing from Washington University in St. Louis, Jim began his career with Edward D. Jones. In 1996, he accepted a position in South Carolina, where he transitioned into healthcare and worked for BlueCross BlueShield until his retirement.

A man of few words and a big heart, Jim was known for his quiet generosity. He was devoted to his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. He was always willing to lend a hand or do whatever he could to make life a little easier for those he loved.

An avid golfer and horseback rider, Jim also enjoyed traveling and the outdoors, particularly hiking, kayaking, and snorkeling. He had a special place in his heart for animals, and dogs brought him particular joy throughout the years, including Tucker, the couple's beloved standard poodle.

Jim is survived by his wife, Becke Shinn Turner; his son, Ethan Turner; his daughter, Lori Turner Williamson; five grandchildren, Dylan, Caleb, Cole, Haley, and Caden, all of Fort Mill, South Carolina; his brother, Walter Turner of Oakland, California; and his sister, Kathy Turner Timmons of Normal, Illinois.

Jim will be laid to rest in Salem, Illinois.
