Powers

St. Anne Catholic Church (Rock Hill)
12:00 - 1:00 pm (Eastern time)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Powers, who departed this life on May 18, 2026, at the age of 80.
Services to honor and celebrate Jim’s life will be held at Saint Anne Catholic Church, 1698 Bird Street, Rock Hill, South Carolina 29730, on June 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
Born on June 1, 1945, in Charleston, South Carolina, Jim was known as a kind, generous, and devoted family man who touched the lives of many throughout his life and career. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was a graduate of Clemson University. Jim went on to build a successful career in retail management, working with Kmart and Michaels. In his later years, he worked part-time with Home Depot and Lowe’s before retiring.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Judy Powers; his son, Michael Powers (Angela) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; his daughter, Angela Gunn (David) of Rock Hill, South Carolina; and his two sisters, Jeanne O’Dell of Seattle, Washington, and Connie Simpson of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He was a proud and loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Robert Simon Powers (Falyn), Grace Violet Powers (Madeline), Benjamin Shea Powers, Kendell Strong (Kaleb), Brooklyn Gunn (Uno), and Cayden Gunn. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Nora James Powers, Marigold Wren Powers, and Navy Charlotta Powers, who will forever cherish the love and memories they shared with him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ruth Powers.
A devoted and faithful follower of the Catholic faith, Jim strove to reflect the teachings of Christ in his everyday life. He was an active parishioner of Saint Anne Catholic Church, where he found great spiritual strength and joy in volunteering. In his free time, Jim enjoyed collecting coins and treasured time spent with his family, especially while vacationing in his favorite place, Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jim’s memory to Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, 902 Crawford Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina 29730.
Jim will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Whitesell Funeral Home is serving the family.
