Obituary

James Edward Holley, Jr., affectionately known as "Wonkum," 77, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and formerly of Roper, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 19, 1948, near Chowan County, North Carolina, James was the beloved son of the late Essie Mae Holley and James Edward Holley, Sr.

James was known for his outgoing personality, generous spirit, and nurturing heart. He never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone feel like family. His love was often shown through simple but meaningful acts of kindness. It was common for James to arrive at your home with a cooler full of food ready for the grill, fill your refrigerator before leaving, and spend the evening sharing stories, laughter, and making memories that would last a lifetime.

He thoroughly enjoyed "hitting the road" and could often be found sharing stories about his latest adventures, lawn care projects, and tips for growing vegetables. James took great pride in cultivating gardens and the relationships he cherished. His wisdom, humor, and unwavering love for family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

James leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and joy that will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.

His family will forever treasure the memories, laughter, and love he shared so freely throughout his life.

"A life well lived leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of those left behind."
