Hal Shepard Riker, beloved son, husband, father and friend died on Thursday, July 24th, at the age of fifty-four surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ithaca, New York in 1971, attended schools in Connecticut, graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder, then later earned his masters degree in business administration. His early interest in technology led to a career in IT, most recently as a senior cloud engineer at The Hartford Insurance Group.
He leaves behind his wife Kimberly, their two children, Jack and Lily, Kim’s parents Jay and Suzanne Drummond who live in Florida, Hal’s parents, Donald and Leigh Riker in Arizona, his brother Scott and Kim’s brother Jay.
Hal loved life, his family and many friends and enjoyed wide interests, including travel, art and music. He had a natural aptitude and a good ear for playing various instruments, especially drums, and was an avid reader, always eager to learn something new. Fishing with his kids and his father in law was another favorite activity.
A celebration of his life will be held at Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill on Friday, August 1st, at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family at https://gofund.me/f1319dbe.
