Geraldine Coale, 82, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on November 26, 2025. She left this world peacefully, held in the love of the family she cherished above all else.
Geraldine is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, William Coale, whom she met in Newfoundland, Canada, when he was stationed with the U.S. Navy in Argentia. Their lifelong partnership grew into more than six decades of love, laughter, and adventure. William is deeply thankful for the many years they shared and often says he could write a book about their adventures together—there was never a dull moment with Geraldine by his side.
She was a loving mother to her only daughter, Pam Latka, who she also called her best friend, and Pam’s spouse “Mike”. Geraldine was a proud grandmother to Brittney Pittman (spouse Ryan) and Katlyn Grimes (spouse Dylan). Her grandchildren always had a special place in her heart and could always make her smile. She was very blessed with a great-granddaughter, Raegan Pittman, who brought her even more joy.
Geraldine was born on September 27, 1943, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Power, her brothers Leo Power and Stan Power, and her sister Betty Gilmore. She is survived by her siblings Kit Clark, Fred Power, Charlie Power, and Gerard Power, along with several nieces and nephews whom she adored.
After moving to the United States, Geraldine lived for many years in Northern Virginia, where she raised her family and formed lasting friendships. She and William later enjoyed several retirement years in Summerfield, Florida, before eventually making their home in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she spent her later years surrounded by family.
She was a very caring and compassionate person, and anyone who knew her loved her. Geraldine had a special way of making people feel welcomed and valued. With her talent for decorating and creating beautiful floral arrangements, she filled every space with beauty—but it was her kindness, quick wit, and joyful spirit that made her truly unforgettable.
A celebration of her life will be held for close family and friends on Saturday, December 6th, from 1–3 PM, at her daughter’s home: 4221 Persimmon Rd., Lancaster, SC.
Geraldine will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love
