Gary Lynn Galek

Gary Lynn “Gab” Galek, 76, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and formerly of Wolcott, New York, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at his home in Rock Hill.

Born on April 6, 1949, in Lyons, New York, Gary was the beloved son of Henry and Laura (Emma) Galek of Wolcott. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, whom he cherished deeply.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret Galek of Rock Hill, SC; his son, Gary Galek Jr. of Liverpool, NY; his siblings Albert Henry Galek and wife Soleng of Riverside, CA; Barbara Carol Marvin of Wolcott, NY; Victor Ray Galek and wife Maria of Charlotte, NC; and Bruce Calvin Galek and wife Connie of North Fort Myers, FL. He also leaves behind extended family and many friends who held him in great affection.

Gary will be remembered for his warm sense of humor and his kind, compassionate heart. A lifelong New York Yankees fan, he rarely missed a game and loved sharing baseball conversations with anyone willing to join in. He had a soft spot for animals—especially dogs—and opened his home to numerous strays throughout his life. Music was another of Gary’s passions, with a particular love for the timeless songs of Johnny Cash.

During his high school years, Gary thrived as an athlete, playing soccer, basketball, and baseball—sports that remained close to his heart long after graduation.

In honor of Gary’s love for animals, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of York County (SC).
