He was predeceased by his wife Lois Annette Akers; his mother, Peggy Akers; and his sister, Debbie Bennett.

Surviving him are his father, Gary Leon Akers, Sr.; and his brother, Barry Akers.

Memorial service has been postponed due to weather and will be announced when rescheduled.
