The family of Frederick George Sleeman sadly announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather on Nov. 4, 2013 at the age of 88., He was a resident of Ridgewood, NJ for 35 years and Tega Cay for 25 years. Born December 16, 1924 in Wales, Great Britain. At age 2, his family moved to Long Island City, NY. He attended Parsons, The New School for Design in New York City. As a WWII veteran, survivor of the Normandy Invasion, he earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, ETO plus 2 stars, Marksman, and The Normandy Liberte Badge, among others. He was presented with a Resolution in which he was recognized and honored by the House of Representatives of SC in 2011 for his service. He met his loving wife, of 64 years, the former Ruth Ann Dietrich of Palisade, NJ at a dance at the infamous Roseland ballroom in NYC. Mr. Sleeman was a talented artist and as an exhibit designer, created some of the most innovative designs in the exhibit industry. Designing for AT&T, he was inspired to design free standing modular public phones for AT&T, complimenting the Expressionistic style of Eero Saarinen's iconic design of the TWA Flight Center/Kennedy Airport. For the 1958 Belgian World's Fair he designed an AT&T exhibit in the American Pavilion, and for the 1964 New York World's Fair an exhibit for Coke a Cola. He designed one of the first modern portable amusement parks. His stylized advertising posters were displayed around NYC, the subways and in Grand Central Station for Johnson & Johnson, Zippo, and others. He was a member of the Tega Cay Veterans Association and a past Commander of the Catawba Power Squadron. In his spare time, he enjoyed painting portraits and designing practical solutions for life's little inconveniences. Mr. Sleeman, will be greatly missed by his wife, Ruth, five loving daughters; Randi Herman and her husband Steve, Deborah Sleeman and her partner Larry, Robin Sleeman, Jody Purvis and her husband Jimmy, Jill Marek and her husband Steve; Grandchildren Jessica Herman, Abbey Leonard and her husband Tony, Casey Suchar, Stephanie Acevedo and her husband Hector, Colton and Amber Marek; Great-grandchildren Aiden and Logan Acevedo.
