Ernest Eugene Stowe, 83, of York, SC, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 28, 2026. He was born September 5, 1943, in Rock Hill, SC, the son of the late Luther Eugene Stowe and Fannie Mae Stowe.

Ernest grew up in Rock Hill, SC, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1962. After his naval service aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), he went on to work in Baltimore, MD, before settling in Rock Hill, SC, to start his family with the late Brenda Stowe. He was a hard-working, dedicated man who worked for National Linen, Comer Distributing Company, and eventually retired from Neal’s Grading & Land Clearing.

With a vast appreciation for the outdoors, Ernest loved to hunt, fish, and garden. He relished sharing his homegrown vegetables with everyone he came in contact with. He enjoyed watching his Clemson Tigers and Washington Redskins, always with his favorite snacks, Pepsi and Lance crackers. Most important to him, other than his immediate family, was his church family. Ernest was a devoted Christian and a member of Union Baptist Church, where he regularly participated in Sunday School and provided “sweet” tea to the congregation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Bishop Stowe; siblings, Shirley Wallace and Tommy Stowe; and son, Michael Stowe.

He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Jamieson; sons, Ernest Stowe, Jr. (Keisha) and Jimmy Stowe (Jennifer); stepdaughter, Brandi King (Jimmy); stepson, Robert Brooks, Jr. (Joy); daughter-in-law, Gerilyn Stowe, wife of his late son, Michael Stowe; and his grandchildren, Andrew, Lee, Ernest III, Challen, Leo, Madilyn, Hannah, Chloe, Xander, Neil, Ellie, Abbie, and great-granddaughter, Savannah, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Union Baptist Church of Filbert, located at 1945 Ratchford Rd., York, SC 29745. The family will receive family and friends for visitation from 2:00–3:00 PM, with a service immediately following at 3:00 PM. After the service, family and friends are welcome to gather in the recreation center for refreshments.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Union Baptist Church of Filbert.
