Edwin Bruce Canty, 75, passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2026, leaving behind a profound and enduring legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family.
He was born in Rock Hill on October 10, 1950, to Alonzo George Canty, Sr and Virginia Moses Canty. Edwin took great pride in his Native American heritage, beginning as a Catawba Indian dancer at a young age. He grew into a hardworking man deeply committed to providing for his family. He was a pipefitter by trade, retiring after 30 years from Hoechst Celanese of Rock Hill.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jennie Weatherford Canty; their three children, Christopher Chad Canty, Erin Melissa Canty-Matthews, and Jonathan Jered Canty; and their three cherished grandsons, Logan and Landon Matthews (Erin) and Sage Canty (Jered & Dana). He also leaves behind his siblings Judy Driggers (Steve), Betty Driggers (Marvin), Wallace Canty (Kathy), and Eric Canty (Vicky). He was preceded in death by Alonzo Canty, Sr; Virginia Canty; and Alonzo Canty, Jr.
Edwin was not only a devoted father, but also a proud grandfather to his three grandsons, who brought him immense joy and pride. His love for his family was unwavering, and he showed it in both quiet moments and lifelong support.
Edwin will be remembered for his wisdom, resilience, and for his devotion to family. His presence was always a steady source of comfort, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Though he is no longer with us, his love, life lessons, and warm memory will live on in the hearts of his family forever.
A visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catawba Ward, 1989 Reservation Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina, followed by a funeral service there at 3:00 p.m., with burial services to follow in the Church Cemetery.
Edwin’s family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped us celebrate his life.
