It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Lewis Auslander, who departed this world on April 24, 2025, at the age of 88. Ed was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, whose life was marked by kindness, generosity, and a profound love for those around him.
Born November 23, 1936, in Glassport, a suburb of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Ed was first known for his football prowess and academic achievements in the field of mechanical and chemical engineering. Upon graduation from Carnegie Technical College, and after considering an offer with the Pittsburgh Steeler organization, he focused on his other passion in iron and steel making. He enjoyed a very productive and lengthy career with Bethlehem Steel Company, having risen from engineer to Superintendent of Blast Furnace L in Baltimore, Maryland. Following his retirement from Bethlehem, he was recruited to Rouge Steel Company in Detroit Michigan, where once again, Ed excelled at leading teams to achieve performance records in iron and steel making.
Ed was best known and will always be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and his faith. Ed was a devoted husband whose marriage of 64 years is a tribute to his love for his wife Dolores. Ed was a devoted father whose five children they raised have followed in his example and all have loving marriages and are filled with devotion to their families and Ed’s numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife, Dolores Herbert Auslander and his children, Linda Auslander Isaman, Edward Lewis Auslander, Junior, William Martin Auslander, James Tobias Auslander, Susan Virginia Dixon and their families. The memories they created will forever remain in the hearts of their loved ones. Ed joins in death, his loving parents, Lewis and Jane Auslander, and his brother Thomas Auslander, and his beloved pet boxer, Cindy. They are at peace together with the Lord.
Ed’s departure is a profound loss, but his spirit will continue to shine brightly through the lives he touched. May he rest in peace, knowing he was cherished beyond measure.
