Dorothy May “Dot” Ransom went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 26, 2026, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her husband, Carter, her children Mark Barnes (Terri) and Sonya Turner, her grandchildren Will Barnes, Jessie Barnes Groth (Phil), Wesley Barnes, Alexis Turner, and Luke Turner.

Dorothy was a longtime member of Central Church of God, a woman of deep and abiding faith. She will be remembered by her family for her faith, her independence, and her ability to repair, build, and create almost anything.

She loved spending time with family, working in her yard, and sitting in the swing on the screened in porch she designed and helped to build. She enjoyed all kinds of seafood—especially oysters and crabs—and playing canasta—especially when she won.

During their eighteen years of marriage, Dorothy and Carter traveled the world by land, air, and sea, visiting many countries in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

Dorothy was born on September 22, 1935 in Wilmington, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Margaret (Branch) Boswell, and her eleven siblings, including Hazel Jones and Margaret Neil, who were her dearest friends as well as sisters.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30 at Central Church of God, 5301 Sardis Rd, Charlotte, North Carolina, with Rev. Mark Barnes officiating, assisted by Rev. Greg Baker and David Douglas.
